The wonderful folk at The Bookshop in Darlinghurst (207 Oxford St, Darlinghurst) have organised a special ‘book signing’ for the Sydney Mardi Gras.
The Bookshop is hosting a signing event on Mardi Gras Saturday, the 3rd March, for the debut issue of this very significant new journal – Bent Street 1 : Australian LGBTIQA+ Arts, Writing & Ideas. Editor Tiffany Jones will be joined by several contributors. Esteemed academic and pioneering gay rights activist Dennis Altman who is visiting from Melbourne, as well as the artist responsible for the stunning cover image, Guy James Whitworth. This event has been specifically scheduled on Mardi Gras Saturday so that visitors from interstate and overseas for the festivities have an opportunity to attend. Note simultaneously we are also hosting a signing for the ‘Mardi Gras Magazine’ with editor Maeve Marsden and several of her contributors.

Bent Street 1 was given its Melbourne Viva! yesterday afternoon at Hares and Hyenas Bookshop. Adam Bandt, Federal MP for Melbourne spoke about the leadership and hope that the LGBTIQA+ community had foregrounded during the recent marriage equality debates.
Brigitte Lewis, Jean Taylor, Steve Pereira and Tina Healy read from their work. The afternoon was introduced by publisher Gordon Thompson and Bent Street editor Tiffany Jones.

The Melbourne launch/celebration of Bent Street 1 will be at 4pm on Sunday 11 February at Hares and Hyenas bookshop, 63 Johnston St, Fitzroy.
Adam Bandt MP, Federal Member for Melbourne, will be launching Bent Street and there will be readings by some of the contributors.
